Previously, the home page here was pretty static, just an image and some basic intro text. That’s probably not the best for SEO, so I changed the layout into a 2 column affair and added a Latest Posts widget so its a little more obvious that the site is actually being updated.
I’m still trying to decide if I like the new block based editor/layout stuff in the WordPress backend. From what I see around, it’s a love it or hate it type of thing. My current 2 cents is that it’s ok, but a little hard to get your bearing in. I don’t plan on messing with the layout stuff much more or adding anything super fancy in a blog post, so I think it’ll work out well enough for my needs.
I haven’t tried Squarespace in a while, but it also has a similar block based back end. I think their’s is a little more intuitive though. I don’t remember getting up to speed with that being as tedious and frustrating at times as in WordPress. WordPress blocks are pretty new, hope they’re able to get some kinks out in the next edition.
