I’ve been collecting Dave Matthews Band audio boots for a long time (15 years) and have hundreds (maybe thousands) of shows in my (not so well curated) collection. Its been wild to see just how good crowd audio recordings can be.
But, the new hotness is video boots. Get a bunch of friends together with video cameras (probably iPhones?) record the whole show and then splice everything together into a full concert length video. The first few shows I saw put together like this weren’t much to write home about. The one below is pretty amazing though. I’m pretty sure I’ve got a some non-bootleg videos of bands that aren’t as well put together.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of the Dave Matthew Bands open taping policy. I’m not sure if they’ve made amendments for video, but their audio policy has always allowed recording and distribution of boots as long as its for free.
