Recently, I finally got around to dragging myself to an eye doctor. Long overdue. I did most of the intake paperwork online, nice! When I got to the office, I had a few more bits that needed signatures.
I was surprised when they asked me to sign on a laminated card with a dry-erase marker. Hmm, odd. Oh, then the light bulb went on. They scan your signature into their digital document management system and then wipe off the document. Smart!
Everywhere else, they do a similar workflow with real paper; but after scanning your stuff, they need to shred and recycle the paper. Pretty wasteful considering they probably do the same operation dozens of times per day.
