Pleasantly Surprised
So, I’ve got a small fry that really doesn’t like going to the doctor. I was able to keep him the dark until a few minutes before we needed to leave. I told him that he was going to the doctor and out came the waterworks all sorts of bargaining to do anything else. Well, this isn’t going to be fun.
Got on the road and he calmed down. We watched a bunch of construction vehicles and traffic en route to the doctor’s office. We got out of the car and got into the office with no meltdowns. Curious.
I did a bunch of catch up paperwork while small fry watched some Scooby Doo on my phone. He stayed mostly in one place. Then we got called up. Surely, the wheels are about to come flying off. He was out of his seat and into the exam area before I got my pile of paperwork together to bring back.
Hmm, no complaints taking weight and height. Got into the exam room and surprisingly compliant doing vitals. Killed some time waiting for the doctor to come in. Got a little bored with Scooby, but mostly kept out of trouble.
Doctor came and talked to us for a while. Small fry was mostly interested. Got through the rest of the physical exam with a bunch of steps that he really didn’t like in the past without much fuss. Who is this child?
One more step to go… a few shots. Gulp.
After a slightly long but mostly tolerable wait, nurse enters with some syringes on a tray and asks where the shots should go. Got small fry up on the table again and told him he was gonna have a few pokes. He looked a little anxious, but more like, “meh, whatever.” Shot one onboard, “ouch!” but no tears. Shot two onboard. Again, another big “ouch!” but no tears.
Got him back down on the floor and he said, “dad, my leg hurts.” Yeah, sorry its gonna be sore for a bit. No worries though, we’re all done for today. Then it was off to Walmart to celebrate the doctor visit with a few new Hot Wheels cars.
Phew, that all went way better than expected. On to worrying about something else now, I guess.
