This morning it was more temperate than its been. By temperate, I mean it was 18 degrees out. So, I decided to suit up and clear snow from last night. The way my driveway, yard, and snow banks are oriented, I’ve been getting some killer drifts. Some areas had 15 inches of snow, and some barely a dusting.
I couldn’t make up my mind if there was enough to warrant getting the snow blower out. But, eventually gave in. Glad I did, because down by the street getting through 8″ of hard pack from the city plow would have taken forever by shovel.
With the driveway taken care of, I looked back at the house and the snow bank on the roof. Hmm, better take care of that, too.
So, I blew out the snow pile closest to the house next. Then I got out my 10 foot step ladder and big push broom. On the first sweep I unleashed a torrent of snow. Even though I knew there was a lot up there, up close and personal, there was even more than I thought. In the valleys, I’d guess there was almost 2 feet packed in.
From the edge of the roof, I could reach about 7 or 8 feet up. So, I inched my way across the front of the house and garage in about 20 minutes. Then, I had move all the snow that landed in driveway again. Didn’t look like a lot, but it was super compacted and heavy from the trip of the roof.
Guess I’m not gonna get much done today outside of that.
Yep, its cold. Again. I almost thought it was tolerable, but then you add that 30 mph gust of wind and things start to suck pretty quick.
(the theme from Wizard of Oz as Dorothy was swept away)
Even though my recycling bin was fully loaded and wedged between a snowbank and my jammed full trash can, the wind still some how set it airborn. The bin is long gone and only a few choice recyclables remained. I did manage to retrieve the discarded wire dish drainer before someone runs it over (again) a few houses down the block.
Nearly froze my fingers off clearing the driveway this morning. Snowblower wasn’t happy. Car wasn’t either. Roads mostly plowed, but still super slippery.
PSA 1: Its frigging cold out. 4 degrees, bah.
PSA 2: Its slippery as hell out.
PSA 3: Morons still tailgating me at every chance.
That is all for now.
There was snow in the air yesterday; Someone should tell mother nature its May and we should be done with that stuff. Anyway, seems like we’re in for another swinger of a week up next. Btw, that’s the Forecast.io weather app, highly recommended.
Ok, enough with the snow already.
A few weeks ago, my snowblower started leaking gas out of the carb out of the blue after sitting in the garage untouched for 3 weeks. So, I flipped the fuel cut off and left it at that. Its been relatively light in the snow department lately, so I’ve been doing the snow clearing the old fashion way by shovel.
Last night, Nemo blew into town and dumped 10″ of snow in the driveway. I thought I’d give the blower a shot for the heck of it. Went through the normal start up procedure and it turned over on the first pull. I gave it a few minutes to warm up and started clearing the driveway.
Surprisingly, it ran like a champ and was throwing just about as good as ever. Equally surprising was that the leaking gas stopped completely.
I still froze my fingers off, even with my fancy Swix lobster gloves. But probably still better than shoveling the whole driveway by hand. Phew.
Sorry, snow, nobody missed you. Light, fluffy, lake effect stuff is piling up fast.
Was driving home from daycare with Jilly recently and spotted a weird phenomena in the sky. It was kind a like a blob of rainbow, limited to one particular spot on the horizon. Never saw anything like that before.
With a little research, it seems that it was a slice of a Circumhorizontal Arc, also know as a ‘ball rainbow’ or ‘fire rainbow’. Keeping eyes peeled for a repeat.
