Good Sunday

Had a pretty good day today.  Spent a bunch of time with Jilly, freeing up the Momma to work on some schoolwork.   In the morning, I took her for a stroller ride and the mostly closed mall (the only stores open were Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, and surprisingly the  Apple store; filing that away for future reference.)

Came home and made some pizza role for lunch.  Also put together some kit box lemon bars.  Jillian was tired as all get out, but not in the mood for a nap.  So into the backpack she went.  It only took 10 minutes to put her out.  End up doing a 90 minute walk.

Could see and hear bits of the running portion of the Syracuse Ironman Triathlon.  Pretty good crowd support even 8 hours after the race started.  Saw some traffic backup, but there didn’t seem to be that many folks super annoyed.

After some time rolling around the floor, Jillian seemed to be puttering out again.  Turned out to be just a fake out.  One bottle later and she was raring to go again.

With the bar-b-que season drawing to a close, I figured it was a good time to grill up the pile of meat that’s hanging out in the fridge for a few weeks now.  Pork chops, chicken, an odd steak, and some kabobs.  We polished off the kabobs for dinner.  We’ll work the rest into other dinners this week.

The sun finally started to peek out and clear up the gray sky that had been out most of the day.  Jillian was a little fussy after her prune (better her than me) and cereal dinner, so we decided to go on another walk with Momma.  Only about 45 minutes this time.  Shortened a bit from the intended hour by an overdue poo from you know who.

A major clean operation and a bath later, Jillian was rubbing her eyes.  We kept her up until 7:50 just to be sure it wasn’t another fake out.  Goodnight kisses and 6 ounces of formula later, she was down for the count.

I still miss running (especially after hearing the crowd support at the race today), but I’m totally enjoying walking an hour a day with 26 lbs on my back… while getting my neck scratched up and my ears tugged as she giggles da-da-da-da-da all the way.

You know, the do do do one, right before the girl says, “they’re back…”

We just put Jillian down for a nap.  She was kinda sleepy after a naptime bottle, but not ready to completely drop off.  So we put her in the crib and left the room.  We heard her playing around for a bit, then quiet.

Then, all of the sudden, we here the wind up mobile hanging over the crib fire up and start chiming away.  Hmm, curious.  Jillian can pull herself up and stand in the crib these days.  So, we guessed that she was dragging the mobile around.

A few minutes later we stuck our heads in to check on her.  She wasn’t standing up and tugging on the mobile.  She ripped it completely off its mount… and was chewing on the wind up motor.

We’re not quite sure how she got it the mobile disconnected from the arm it formerly hung on.  Its a pretty tight eyelet and hook type affair.  If you just pulled straight down on it, you’d like the break the arm before the hook would let go.  Very strange.

Needless to say, the remnants of the mobile were disconnected and added to the outgrown pile.  Sniff…

Twitter Weekly Updates for 2010-09-12

Bob Ross, I ain’t

…but I admit that I have a ton of fun messing around with the Brushes paint app on my iPod touch.  I started a flickr gallery of my work, check it out.

I’ve been painting for a bit, but haven’t had a chance to export anything until just now.  Beyond the simple lo-fi png files that I uploaded to flickr, you can also export .brushes files and use a separate viewer app back on the mac that lets you export high export pngs and videos of your painting in action.  That’s pretty wild.

The brushes app is pretty fun considering I’m using on a 4″ screen.  I imagine it would super slick on an iPad, drool…

Can’t stop listening…

Two albums in high rotation this week:

  1. GurrumulGeoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu.  I picked up Wiyathul as the Starbucks iTunes free pick of the week a few weeks ago.  Most of these freebies are pretty lame, but this one was strikingly good.  Gurrumul is a little hard to describe, but here goes;  I think he sounds like Robert Bradley crossed with Jack Johnson, with a little extra Iz on the side.  Laid back, but powerful at the same time.
  2. BrothersThe Black Keys.  I’ve been listening to the Black Keys for a while based on a recommendation from a buddy and hearing a bunch about them on the NPR.  Their last few albums were pretty catchy, the but Brothers really knocks it out of the park.  Solid rock and roll power and heavy voiced lyrics to match.

Long Days…

We think teething is in full effect now.  Jilly not all that interested in solid food and it takes a lot of formula to get the same energy.  So, she’s been a tired crank the last few days.

Today, save for a about 30 minutes in two different hour long walks, napping wasn’t gonna happen.  She’d be tired as all get out, but after a little nappy formula snack as soon as she hit the crib, she’d be puttering around again.

Needless to say, this makes for some frazzled and pooped out parents too.  With the temperatures getting cooler at night, we got her bundled in up in long pj’s already.  Hopefully won’t wake up hungry from burnt up energy staying warm.  Hope she’s in a better mood in the am.

Ok, where are those tweets at?

Hmm, so still no tweets on blog posts.  Turns out there’s a bunch of folks having the same problems with twitter-tools.  Just noticed that my Dreamhost config for this domain was still saying php4 (even though calling php_info() from a script in this domain reports v5.2).  I flipped that switch, but I doubt it will help.  I guess I’ll stab around in the dark some more until someone makes a debugging breakthrough.
