Ironically, the only part on my buddy that gives me real trouble in the colder weather are my hands. Below 50 degrees, my hands turn into bricks from poor circulation and arthritis. Running gloves helped through the 40s. Now that we're down to the 30s, I think I might have to find some lightweight winter gloves.

What the hell is the matter with you? Are you CRAZY?!

I sometimes feel this way about biking. I am heavy -- 225 lbs as I type this. My bike is heavy -- 40 lbs. The thought of hauling 265 lbs to work and back never really appeal to me. Especially now that it's getting a bit colder here too. Not NY cold, but the bite is ... biting.

Well, once you're on the road, there is nothing to it. You meld with the bike. If it gets too cold, you put on riding gloves (I have to minimize my use of riding gloves though, since they make me break out in shingles! Ouch!), but overall, you don't notice the weather.

I remember riding 5 miles from my hotel to Google, when I first got hired, and I hadn't found an apartment yet. It was so cold that there were patches of ice on the road. I had to ride cock-headed because the condensation of my breath impeded my vision. Yet, I rode in shorts -- when arriving at Google, I'd be dripping in sweat.

Fun times. Know the feeling, although in a different context. I just wish I could lose the weight. :(
