Yar, that's a pretty sad story. I've always guess that Geek Squad are pretty clueless. In fact, digg had a story the other day about someone shelling out more than $400 to fix a problem and they weren't any help at all.

I've been messing around with PC's for years, so when thing blow up, I can usually fix things myself. I realize that's not an option for everybody.

I'd recommend just flat out returning the whole system and getting a mac. (if you paid with a credit card, they might be able to help you write off the bum pc as a lemon) you can find a comparable Apple for the same amount of money (or less if you get a refurbished) and will have far less problems than in the Microsoft world.

I put my own my where my mouth is and switched to mac myself about a month ago and I'm very happy. My Windows XP machines now functions only as a printer server for my wife.

I just purchased a computer on 2-17-07 at Best Buy. I have been on the phone or in the store with them almost everyday since!!! First, after hearing the horror stories on the web about Windows Vista, I wanted to get another XP. Of Course, Best Buy doesnt carry them anymore. So I thought, okay, fine. After paying the bill, I pulled my car up to the door and popped the trunk, thinking they would wheel everything out to the car and help me load it. I walk back in the store and there is "Joe Salesman" who just sold me $1500.00 worth of equipment, rolling my stuff to the door. I said " my car is right here, upon which, he informed me that they are not allowed to walk out of the store. Now keep in mind, I am a female with a terrible back problem & it was colder than hell outside (Im in Northern Illinois). Nope. No help from us, sorry. (Elderly woman behind me had the same response). Since this wonderful treatment, I have had to bring back the monitor (for a blown pixel) and they have informed me that my 14 return policy doesnt start over on that day. It will still be the
2-17-07 day I originally purchased it. And I have been on the phone or in the store with the tower almost everyday with Vista problems! Now, the 1st time I returned to the store with the tower, they hooked it up and instead of fixing the problem, they TOLD me how to do it. (do an F11 System Recovery), okay, could have told me that over the phone! But no! made me bring it in. Spent 5 hours doing the recovery and downloading all the drivers from the HP site for the printer and the DSL software from Verizon----because, oh yea, no one at Best Buy informs the customers that their stuff will probably not be compatible with Vista. So after all that, it worked for 10 minutes, crashed and said that Windows operating system is missing and to reinstall the disk. (no disk in box). I take it back today and lo and behold I hop in line at the store with several other people, in front of the Geek Squad counter, only to be told (by my same, helpful, guy from before) to go to sales and get a new tower---it must be bad or something! Again, the 14 days do not start from today. I called back to the store and told them to dump the Vista and install Windows XP (until Microsoft gets the bugs worked out). Thats gonna cost me another $200.00 and that only if they can find drivers in the store for XP! (not likely). These employees never smile, when they speak to you its EXTREMELY RUDE, and they are the most unhelpful people I have ever met. I think people who cant keep a job because of their poor attitude, all end up working at Best Buy. Oh, and don't ever buy a Movie or a CD from them. I'm starting to wonder if they buy ones that have "fallen off the back of a truck". They seem like bootleg copies! Oh and once you open them, you can't return them!

Good Luck All!
